Click to return to the top of the page Quality – The visual quality of glass supplied by Leicester Glass Company Limited will meet the standards and guidelines set out by the Glass & Glazing Federation (GGF). Any inspection of the glass should be carried out following these guidelines in natural daylight and not in direct sunlight or under artificial light. All the Toughened, Curved Toughened and Heat-soaked glass we supply is fully British Standard Kite-Marked to the relevant standard (BS EN 12150, BS ISO 11485-3:2014 & BS EN 14179).
Click to return to the top of the page Deliveries – Leicester Glass Company Limited only operates one regular delivery vehicle and as such can only offer delivery to a limited number of areas, on pre-set days, based around out regular trade customers. F.O.C. deliveries will take place on a Thursday or Friday. We do not deliver on weekends. Requested deliveries outside of the above may incur a delivery charge. All deliveries will be “loose load” i.e. we do not provide wrapped, packaging or pallets. Our driver will ensure that the glass is delivered to a safe, downstairs location, within easy walking distance of the delivery vehicle. However, customers will need to be present to check the delivery and will need to provide labour for the offloading of large and/or heavy panels of glass. We can advise where we are happy to temporarily site glass but it is up to the customer to ensure they are happy with the placement within their address. Deliveries will be made during normal working hours, between 8.00 and 16.30, on our pre-set day for the area. We cannot guarantee a specific time however, if requested, our driver will advise you with an approximate delivery time. For deliveries outside of our regular routes, required on any other day than our usual pre-set day, or delivered within a specific time frame, it may sometimes be possible to arrange a dedicated delivery at extra cost. Due to the fragile nature of glass, deliveries may occasionally need to be re-scheduled at short notice. In the event of this happening, we will always try to give as much notice as possible. All glass should be handled with care at all times. Cut edges will be sharp, polished edges can easily chip and toughened glass should never be stood on its end on a hard surface without protection. Do not turn toughened glass on its corner. Take suitable precautions when handling any glass product, plan your safety equipment and your route before attempting to lift the glass. Make sure you are comfortable with the weight and its distribution. Do not attempt to move glass if you feel in any way unsure about the process. Leicester Glass may be willing by prior arrangement to fit a pane of glass purchased from us on a “supply and delivery only” basis but this will incur a fitting charge.
Click to return to the top of the page Mirrors & Painted Glass – Mirrors and painted glass should always be handled, installed and maintained correctly to avoid damage and prolong the working life of the glass. Only mirror adhesive should be used for bonding mirrors, and clear, low modulus, neutral cure silicone is the only adhesive we recommend be used to bond painted glass. The adhesive/silicone should be applied in vertical strips approx. 300 MM in length, 100 MM apart and no more than 6 MM in width. On bonded mirrors safety backing can be applied in strips to allow for the adhesive to be applied directly to the mirror backing. A fully backed mirror should not be glued to any substrate as the only attachment method. A fully backed mirror will need mechanical fixing. Where a mirror is to be mechanically fixed using mirror screws, suitable rubber grommets should be used to prevent the metal screws coming into direct contact with the glass. Leicester Glass Company Limited recommend that all mechanically fixed mirrors are supplied fully safety backed. As paint is viewed through the glass slight variations in colour may be noticeable when compared to the original colour swatch. Variations may also occur on panels ordered in different batches, or viewed under different lighting. Leicester Glass Company Limited can supply suitable mirrors adhesive, mirror screws and silicone.
Click to return to the top of the page Nickel Sulphide (NiS) & Heat-soaking – NiS inclusions are a rare yet accepted anomaly within glass manufacturing that can, over time, result in tempered (toughened) glass spontaneously failing. While heat-soaking greatly reduces the rise of ‘in-service' NiS failure, the heat-soak process itself is not fail safe. Therefore, Leicester Glass Company Limited are not able to offer any warranty against this phenomenon, and we cannot accept any liability for any breakages that may occur.
